Vail snatches up Kirkwood

New came out this morning that Kirkwood is now part of the Vail family. The $18million purchase includes the undeveloped sites at the center of the base area which are zoned for residential and commercial development, while Kirkwood will retain ownership of the remainder of the real estate development sites.

The deal will be finished within the next month, but as of today, Epic passholders can now ride at Kirkwood and Kirkwood passholders can ride Northstar and Heavenly.

I'm pretty stoked about this. Kirkwood is an awesome mountain and it'll be cool to be able to ride there with my Northstar pass. I haven't been there since last season when I hitch hiked down to the Queen of the Park competition, but I'd love to make it there again this season. If we ever get snow. Kirkwood is awesome when there's snow, but when there's not, it's not worth the 79 mile drive down.

Do I foresee Vail eventually buying out all of Tahoe? Yes. Should we all be worried about this? Probably. Am I worried right now? Nope.

Time to ride.

USCSA

USCSA has been going pretty good. It's cool to finally have people to compete against, unlike USASA last year.

I've traveled with the Sierra Nevada College team down to Mammoth twice now, for two boardercross contests and one slopestyle. I placed second in all 3 events behind my team mate Ashley. There are a couple other riders who are pretty good but for the most part kids in the college series are just competing as a hobby and don't ride very often. I think that's cool that students from schools that aren't even near the mountains can still be part of a snowboard club and compete.

This next weekend my team is driving down to Mammoth for three days for Regionals. We'll be competing in Giant Slalom, Slopestyle, and Boardercross. Still no Halfpipe :[. I'd really like to place first so I'm going to have to step it up. That means no speed checking in the Boardercross course, and sending it with spins on the jumps. I think I've got it in me, I'll just have to really push myself.

Hopefully I'll be coming back next week with good news.

Cholula

I received an email last month asking if I would like to review Cholula Hot Sauce. I already put Cholula on everything so of course I agreed. My variety four pack arrived in the mail this last week and I'm currently undergoing intense scientific testing of the different flavors. I should have an official review out later this month. Until then, why don't you win some free stuff from Cholula?

Cholula is holding a Hot Shot of the Week contest this winter. All you need to do is post your action photo on their facebook or on twitter tagged #CholulaHotShot for the chance to win a gopro helmet cam or other awesome prizes. Get on it!
